Na! Na! Na! - Series 4 Paula... and a Plush Car!?

Hey guys! More Na Na's here! Yay!

Today I've got a series 4 Paula Purrfect and a what? A plush convertible? A plush car? HUH?

I'll get to it, I promise, first Paula's story.

I didn't actually buy Paula. She was sent by MGA!

By the time I got the series 3 Na Na's, series 4 was sold out everywhere. Australia is kinda wonky like that, we get series stock out of order or really slow. So I missed Paula :(.

In my Series 3 review I encountered an interesting Sasha Scratch specimen who's head came off, and had a hand written sticker note on her back! I mostly just wanted to know what the note said so I wrote to MGA.

Based on the the response I got, it was probably an escapee from the factory repair line, and they sent a replacement. It wasn't a replacement Sasha though, probably because I kept calling her SARAH in the emails. OOPS. Coincidentally, it was Paula, the last series 4 Na Na I wanted :D

The plush convertible was something that I'd been widely eyeing since it was announced but couldn't justify the RRP of AUD $45 even though I'm sure it would be worth it. When it went on half-price-clearance for $23 at Kmart, I snatched one! Had I waited another week or so though, I could have gotten it for $11 but they'd sold out at my stores by the time I got out again and I would have definitely missed out. At the time of writing this, I haven't seen it on sale anywhere else cheaper.

It's currently $36 at Big W, and $29 at Target. Grab one while you can!

Back to Paula; she's part of a series I've already looked at properly, and as such I'll only be looking at what's different for her. To see the others, and the identical packaging you can check them out here.

Paula arrived more or less with the shit beat out of her box, having been sent in a simple prepaid postal baggie. Not that I care, I don't keep the box lol. There was a big fat dent in the back, and from outside the packaging, I could see the balloon was spewing confetti shapes throughout the box through a split in the tear tab.

Her symbol is a simple little kitty cat with whiskers.

That matches her Pom, her hat, and her general kitty theme. Her pom and hat are made of beautiful rainbow fabric.

She's 19cm/7.5in, with a light complexion, long curly two-tone bleach blonde hair, blue eyes, pink lips and blushing. Her printed clothes are yellow gingham undies and white knee high socks. There's an AS IF booty pants print and shiny-look buckles. It looks like an Elle Woods Legally Blonde outfit.

As per usual, the stupid hat product tag comes off, but the character tag stays on! Her birthday is May 23rd and her quote is "Too much? As if!"

Paula's clothes consist of a pink sweater vest with a sheer white blouse underneath, a black and white check/houndstooth pencil skirt with silver stud details, and pretty little blue opalescent kitty heels with white soles. The stitching on the clothes is very good, most are double stitched.

Dressed, the shirt is oversized and too big. The shoes and skirt don't really match, and the blouse isn't hemmed on the bottom and is already fraying D: Individually the clothing pieces are really pretty, but together they're sort of... huh??? She looks way better in her character art, the translation to doll didn't seem to go quite as planned.

[full look, checklist side by side] got look

Onto the convertible. Honestly, there was no way I could have planned for the coincidence of Paula being the Na Na I got from MGA, AND printed on the box, which makes her the perfect Na Na to try it out with!

It's recommended for ages 3 and up, just like all the other Na Na lines, because it's got small parts that're potential choking hazards. The balloons say it's "Soft & Plush", and "Fits All Dolls" in English, French and German, making the packaging an international edition.

The box is very cute and I love it, but it's 50% air, and impractically sized! There's 6cm of platform cardboard on the bottom, and so much free space in the 4/6 window bubble. Could this all have not all been done at half the size?

On the bottom is all the licencing info, barcode etc, and perforated edges to rip the box open from the bottom. Ya'll know me though, I'm going to open it like I'm doing surgery on a grape because I'd like to keep the back cards lmao.

With a couple of carful slices with a craft blade, some gentle tugs and a bit of ruler slicing action, the box comes open without ripping open the bottom. The back card and the base are seperate from the platform and inner backcard, and the window is it's own piece.

To get the car off the base, you pinch, twist, and yank these little twisty cap thingies and it should come loose.

Using my craft blade and some tape, I took everything that wasn't the backcard parts and recreated the podium the car sits on, so I can put it back on cute original packaging for display. It also doubles as a storage box with all the space underneath. The backcards will go into storage.

[little frankenstein display box] yep

It's such a cute car! Very heavy too. A whopping 680g for a little 26cm vehicle! Most of this weight seems to be in the tires that have rubber tread with little pawprints. Look at those sweet paw rims too! The underside of the car is lined with black fabric, has two holes where the cap thingies were holding it into the box. It's also got a tag, just like the dolls. I typically cut the tags off, but I don't think I need to for this. It stays folded under the car when it's upright. The most I'd probably do is tape it to the underside when I'm taking photos to hide it.

While I was under the car, I noticed a weird little jibber at the rear end... and it flips out beyond the back bumper to become... A TOW BAR!

ARE WE GETTING A TRAILER TOO? A CAMPER VAN??? WHEN?!?!

Ok breathe. Calm down. Moving on.

Like the packaging says, the car is plush! All the pink parts are squishy and soft, they have some give when they're pressed in on. Squish squish squish. The cat ears and tail are soft plush too c:

Some of the cosmetic details are printed on like the nose and whiskers, but a lot are sewn and embroidered too. Like the license plates! Look at them! So detailed! The rear lights have little kitty heads printed on them, and the silver reflectors have little cat toebeans.

There's an insert behind the clear vinyl windshield that you take out, but I've cut the bottom off so the doll legs can fit in the footwell, and left it on there for support. The windshield is very flexible and might deform without it.

The dashboard has a printed decal sticker with dials and vents, and the steering wheel has a little printed kitty head. It's got a cute little kitty seat with a working kitty-face embellished seatbelt

There's plenty of space in the footwell, not having a single axle probably helps with that. Lots of foot room for the Teens.

So the thing is with Na Na's is that their legs don't rotate at the hip at a right angle to their body, but do this outward turn like baby-dolls have, so to get Paula to sit in the drivers seat, I had to take her shoes off, do a small turn outwards, and then break her knees lmao. The seatbelt doesn't lock in so she kinda just pops up out of the seat.

What about Na Na Teens? Well, I dunno! I don't have one opened and ready to play with just yet. But when I do, I'll update this section and leave a place reserved for it :)

[Reserved space for future addition of a Na Na Teen sitting in the car]

What about other dolls? Staying on brand, I tried LOL OMG, Rainbow High and Bratz dolls. For other brand stuff, FailFix, Barbie, Monster High and Miraculous Ladybug.

OMG's fit, quite well actually, but best with no shoes.

Rainbow High fit too, again best with no shoes. I'm sensing a pattern here.

Bratz dolls, again, fit, but with no shoes. Their shoes are quite massive anyway though.

FailFix fit great! There's no need to take their shoes off either :)

Normal body Barbie does not fit, her legs are too long, but perhaps a petite Barbie would.

Monster High fits, but I had to take the shoes off.

Miraculous Ladybay female dolls fit without shoes, but males - Cat Noir - do not fit at all.

-----

Paula and the convertible are lovely additions to my Na Na collection, the car especially. It fits a lot of my dolls already in production so would be good for kids even if they don't have any Na Nas.

I'd love to get her big sister, Rainbow Kitty, printed on the box with Paula, but with a normal RRP of upward of AUD $129, that's a bit too fricken much for me for one doll! She comes with a giant pom, 5 items of clothing and four pairs of shoes.

They're on sale for $99 at Big W presently, but that's still far too much for me to justify. The large doll Poms would be super great for storing all my Na Na's so I would still love to own them at some point. Maybe I'll be able to grab her and the pink and black rabbit second hand for a bargain some day, but $99 ain't it, son.
