Na! Na! Na! Surprise Series 4 - Melanie, Juli and Bebe

Note: Click on pics to enlarge!

I. Love. Na Na's. I must start with that.

Back when series 1 came out, I was like OOO, I could probably get into these. I wanted most of them, but only got Roxie Foxie quite a while after release and then they disappeared. I later picked up Tuesday Meow from series 2, completely missed series 3 - haha oops- and now here we are at series 4! I did see some series 3 not long ago in a sparkle series shelf box - weird - so if I can find who I want I might pick one up later.

They're such an interesting style of Doll that is different from your normal plastic, and not completely plush. They also guarantee you won't get duplicates if you pay attention to the symbol sticker on the front of the box, that is connected to the checklist. It's best to look up checklists before you buy so you don't get someone you don't want.

Today I'll be looking at Melanie Mod, Bebe Groovy and Juli Joyful. I would have got Paula too cause I LOVE cats, but with there was none of her left :(

Melanie Mod has the flower symbol sticker,
Bebe Groovy has a peace sign, and
Juli Joyful has bamboo stems.

[symbols][2]

Series 4 are/were available at Kmart, Target and Big W for $32 and occasionally on sale for about $25.

Melanie Mod came home long before the other two, but I didn't get around to writing the review for her, and the pictures I took got lost amongst all the LOL OMG review pics. Melanie needed her hippie sister so I grabbed Bebe, and I liked the look of Juli's sakura attire and grabbed her too.

Series 1 and 2 cases were a fairly rectangular shape with an inflated-balloon-style molding, and series 3 and 4 are the same, but with bunny ears. This design is continued into the Sparkle series. The ears make opening the case slightly easier than the earlier ones but they're a little extra. A little handle half the size would have done the same job and taken less plastic, but wouldn't have been as cute.

[series 1, 2, 3, 4 boxes][3]

After you crack the case open, you take the bag out, take the straw from the inside of the case, insert it into the hole at the bottom of the bag and inflate it. Then, if you enjoy mess, pull the tear strip off the top and 'pop' the bag. Confetti WILL go everywhere. I like to do stuff as tidy as possible, so I rip off the tear strip, empty the confetti into a ziplock, and then I cut the bag open. I don't usually inflate the bag. It really looks like I don't like fun, but I just don't like mess. I save the cute confetti for crafts like additives for resin charms :)

[unpacking][4]

Inside the bag is some smaller bags containing accessories and the Pom that contains the Doll.

[Pom and bags][5]

Melanie's Pom is a fluffy purple bunny with a white daisy embroidered over the right eye.

[Pom face][6]

A cute detail of these Poms are that the hanger clasp and the zip are themed to the Pom and Doll and are all different. Melanie is a bunny, her Pom is a bunny, so the clasp and zip have bunny ears. It's so cute!

[Pom details][7]

Melanie's baggies contain this gorgeous tie dye dress

[dress][8]

And these black gogo boots with little flower prints and purple soles.

[shoes][9]

To free the Doll, unzip the Pom and pull out the plastic capsule. Carefully cut the tape, open it up and pull out the Doll. Straighten him or her up; the Doll will have been stuck in a perpetual backflip for a while.

Up until the sparkle series, all Dolls hair is attached to their hat with the manufacturer tag, which I always cut off. It interferes with the hair way too much.

[a thieved pic w/credit][10]

All Dolls have a holographic tag with their name and birthdate. Melanie Mod's birthday is Marth 10th, and her quote is 'This bunny is far out.'

[tag][11]

Melanie's face print and underwear are pretty cute too.

[face 'n' undies][12]

And here she is dressed.

[dressed n cute][13]

Melanie is my favourite and is why I picked her up first. Her colour scheme and tie-dye theme are absolutely gorgeous so she was a must-have. It's a well done bright and moody colour combination. Plus her name is my middle name and we are both born in March! I didn't know what her tag said and I uncontrollably love stuff that shares the same birth month or star sign.

So, now you've seen how to unbox a Na Na, I'm not showing it again two more times for Bebe and Juli. All the packaging is identical throughout the series, so I'll start with their accessories and Poms.

--------------------

Bebe Groovy is next!

Her Pom is almost the same as Melanie's. It's also a bunny, yellow with a pink daisy embroidered over the right eye. The clasp and the zip have bunny ears too. I noticed that Melanie's clasp is silver, and Bebe's is gold.

[Bebe's Pom][14]

Bebe's outfit is this very cute flower power dress

[dress][15]

And she too has gogo boots, but white with neon pink soles.

[shoes][16]

Bebe's birth date is September 21 and her quote is 'Hoppiness is a state of mind.'

[tag][17]

Her face and undies are very similar to Melanie's but different colours

[face n undies][18]

And here she is all dressed up, with the manufacturer tag removed. Her colours and design are very 70's hippie flower child, and she has tinsel in her hair.

[cutie!][19]

Bebe is so similar to Melanie, it's like they're sisters. Maybe they are? Who knows. They are in my headcanon anyway.

[DEFINTELY sisters][20]

--------------------

Lastly is Juli Joyful

Juli's pom is the first Panda to be made. Nothing fancy about the Pom, just a standard panda with panda-ear clasp and zip. A white background probably wasn't the best choice for this Pom lol. I need more colours. This Pom's clasp is gold too.

[Pom][21]

Juli's outfit is a gorgeous tule flower print dress with little tule tufts for flowers

[dress][22]

And her shoes are high heeled traditional wooden Geta shoes.

[shoes][23]

Juli's birthday is December 12 and her quote is 'Always look on the cute side of life.'

[tag][24]

Her face makeup is simple, and her undies are a more basic corset design with a floral design. She's also got a printed-on bracelet, an accessory detail not many Na Na's have.

[face n undies][25]

And finally, here she is dressed.

[dressed][26]

I understand the Japanese theme the designers were going for with this one and it's portrayed fairly well. The mismatch of the hat to the outfit on the other hand doesn't satisfy me, but the outfit itself is very nice. The curled hair was a nice touch, but I think mine has been burned in places and has lost a little bit because of this. It's a knotted nightmare and with it being sewn to the hat, it has little anchorage and will come out if I brush too hard. Her dress is a little wonky, there's too much fabric on the right side so it sticks out too much.

I very much so like all three of these Dolls, but Melanie will always be my favourite of this series. She just radiates ME energy. If I absolutely had to I would rehome Juli first.

I always tie my Na Na's hair back by the way, because it's so chaotic. I hope to someday find correctly sized porcelain doll stands for these dolls so that I can put them on display. Y'know the ones with the adjustable wire clasp? They're not your typical size of a doll at 19cm or 7.5in so they don't fit any other stand types that I have.

[all three][27]

--------------------

I'm not a massive fan of the waste and this is my issue with almost all blind-box surprise style products. Imagine the below times THREE, and then imagine it for all the thousands of units sold and unboxed. Most of it is plastic, and it is recyclable, but there's just so much! I really hope MGA can find a way to make some of the packaging reusable, a kinder material for the environment, or lessen it. I keep the straws, baggies and main big bag for crafts. I used to keep the Pom inserts but I'm working on making my own inserts that make storing things in them easier so I've thrown mine away. Everything else is useless.

[so much plastic waste][28]

------------------

So I've opened 3 of series 4 - I've got two spare checklists now, and I'm giving them away. If you'd like one, please send me a message on Instagram and tell me you'd like to claim one. I will need your address. If you're not an adult make sure you have parent/guardian permission to give it to me. Australia only.

--------------------

I'm so keen for Sparkle Series - all of them! - and Marina Jewels is my favourite. I love and need anything and everything mermaid, and this cutie is the first Na Na with ROOTED HAIR! I tried to get her as soon as I could after release, but she has COMPLETELY disappeared from all stores around me. I can find all the others but not Marina! Crazy scalpers are buying out stock and selling her online for more than $50 plus postage! I refuse to break and give money to disgusting people like this.

[Marina and her symbol][29]

Some earlier Na Na's I'm still looking for are;

I'm not super desperate for these cuties so I'm not buying from eBay at this time. Please contact me if you find any of these in stores and can pick it up for me as well!

I will be paying for the item. I do not expect you to do this out of your own pocket. They must all be brand new in the box.

Update: I got Marina! YAY

Don't take my words as an unbiased judge for this product. I'm very picky. Do some more research! Check out others reviews, check out their homepage below, or purchase one to discover it for yourself!
