O.M.G. Remix Kitty K

Note: Click on pics to enlarge!

Ohey! It's Kitty K! Definitely not Ariana Grande! Nope! No similarities here!

I'm kidding, I know her looks are based on Ariana, and I'm glad the design team went with something ripped right from reality and managed to make it look good!
Unlike Honey
Uhh... ANYWAY!
Kitty K is one of four of the single Remix series dolls, big sister of Kitty Queen, and the most popular of the four. She was quick to sell out in my area. I picked her up quite a while ago with Honey, when they were first released, so if there's anything wrong with her I'm not covered by the 30-day purchase warranty. Woopsie.
Kitty was a fantastic $42 promo price at my local Big W, and with her fast disappearance, didn't make it to the Christmas toy sales with Lone Star and Pop B.B, where she would have been $48. Their normal retail price is a staggering $65 so if you're thinking about getting any of the set, I'd suggest waiting for a sale. Kitty's barcode is 0 035051 567240. My batch code is 29220WZGE. If the batch code ended in WZE she would have been the darker skin tone variant. I did look for this, but my local stores seem to have all gotten the SZW/WZGE ending.
The boxes play music, using a small music box and the rotation of the record, and come with a second outfit for themselves or their friend. Kitty will come with an outfit for Pop B.B, and she will have one for Kitty.
The box design has a pink-black-white pattern of splotchy polka dots. Kitty K is on the front, all four characters on the back, 'Kitty K feat. Pop B.B' on one side and little sis Kitty Queen on the other. Some ripped designs expose the yellow of the inner box where Kitty is hiding. Clearly visible sticking out the side is Kitty's record.
The record fell out while I was cutting the sleeve tape off so I'll have a look at that. The label is the same design as the box sleeve, with black polka dots on pink, 'Kitty K' and her single title 'Meow'. The record looks completely transparent, but it's a very light grey with a subtle rainbow holographic sheen that's incredibly difficult to photograph and barely visible to the naked eye.
The inner box is the yellow that I mentioned earlier, that was visible through the outer sleeve, and is the same design as Honey's, just a different colour. All inner boxes must have this design but in a different colour. The back is pure black and takes fingerprints like its wet paint! Oh no xD
:O Is that a sneaky peek of Kitty's hair? Shiny!
When you open the door a big fat chonky instruction booklet falls out, way too big for my lightbox. It's nothing to worry about though, just the same instructions in 11 or 12 different languages. The section in English is the first 14x29cm section. Such a terrible waste of paper though.
It shows how to use Kitty's record, change the included batteries if they die, how to construct the doll stand, and how to correctly remove the doll's hands. It also says each doll includes a unique part of the Remix song and lyric sheets.
On the inner door flap has a full-body Kitty print with her singles Hair Toss, Mic Check and Meow, and feat. Pop B.B. in a little button bubble down the bottom.
The record deck side has a gorgeous fake holo and pink fractal design, printed record, and numbered dial doors where Kitty's accessories are concealed
I tried to swing open the bottom dial door where the pearly pink hatbox is and it broke apart and the peg won't stay in. Heck-
The top dial door hides the black shoe box and did not self destruct when I turned it.
Before I take Kitty out of the box, I'll do the record thingy. First, you've gotta pull the drawer out, and pull the battery tab from the battery pack. Then slide the drawer back in, put the record on the turnstile and give it a turn! Anything more than a 360 degree spin of the record from the activation point of the music will turn it off. If you're crafty enough like me, you can replace the pull tab in the slot so there are no accidental noises.
I can't show sound, so the
lyrics Kitty's box have are;
"My B.B.'s slay all day,
Hear me when I say,
My crew is fierce, hey hey,
Workin' that runway.
With my crew, we ride,
We remix this vibe,
We rule the world, that's right,
We're L.O.L Surprise!"
I didn't write down Honey's box lyrics and definitely should have, so I could figure out what part of the song she has! I'll have to do that, possibly at the end of this review. Kitty K has the very first verses of the Crew Remix song, except for the first 4 lines.
Now it's time to check out the Kitty K doll!
Inside the box in her little changeroom drawer, there's Kitty with her 3 garment bags, lyric book, stand and brush. I'll be getting a closer look at these soon. Behind her is her changeroom scene, which looks like a backstage room for a concert. This scene can be taken out of the box and used as a display background. Honey's can probably do this too, I didn't check.
I do love this doll - the design, the style, the colours - but there are immediately obvious problems with her that are visible from her presentation in the box. Of course, there's the normal hair loss of these cut styled dolls, but her fringe is a mess and so is one of her pigtails. I will have to redo her hair. The glitter application on her lips is thin and the eyeshadow is uneven, and the sewing on her bodice is off centre. This really upsets an OCD perfectionist like me, and there's no way I'll be able to replace neither head nor bodice because she's out of warranty :( My best chance of replacements is probably going to be aftermarket parts from AliExpress or eBay.
Before taking her out of the box I found the hidden secret of SO MUCH HAIR! Oh my god! It is stunning, but the pictures I capture of it don't do it justice. I foresee myself struggling with this when fixing her hair issue later, oh no.
So that she may stand as I look at her stuff, I grabbed her stand out first. The white is barely visible on my backdrop and the feint pearly colouring is even less so. To find the clasp you flip over the base and take off the seat/platform section. The seat slides onto and stops midway on the stand pole so the doll may sit on it, or so you may display an accessory or two. Some time ago MGA stopped making the brushes the same colour as the stand, and this saddens me a little; a pearly white brush to match Kitty's stand would have been gorgeous, but instead, we are given a pearly hot pink brush. As you can see I've tied Kitty's hair back using one of the box elastics so I can manage it better while looking at her clothes, accessories and while dressing her.
Kitty has long mixed lavender hair with tinsel and a fringe, and a very tanned complexion. She has brown eyebrows, brown iris', symmetrical beauty spots at the corners of her mouth, and - I'm not sure if it's a moulding error - a chin indent! It's barely visible in pictures but it's there. I have a chin indent too, that's cool! I wonder, is she the only one with a chin indent or have I just not noticed?
She has pink eyeshadow and lipstick, each coated in hot pink glitter, black eyeliner and lashes, and pink blushing below her eyes.
She's got the standard O.M.G. curvy, thick body, with 11 points of articulation; 360-degree head rotation, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and bend-and-snap knees. She stands on-pointe.
Kitty wears a holographic silver bodice, with sewn details and rhinestone-encrusted collar that Velcros that the back. She also wears stretchy pink and silver booty shorts with elastic around the waist. Kitty has minimal frosty silver printed undies that have the thinnest application I've ever seen of OMG undies.
Her nails are painted in the same colour as her undies, but her right hand is more generously applied than the left, and it looks as if there's almost nothing on the left. Between her middle and ring finger, a chunky silver gemstone ring is embedded into her hand, Barbie style. I can see that being lost very quickly by kids.
While I was checking out the clothes, I sadly found some plastic issues in poor kitty's body that I question how it made it past quality control. Her upper left arm has crazy scar-like textured defects going on, and there's a flaw in her knee that resembles a deep cut. Who thought this was okay? It's gross.
I really hope there are no more issues with this doll. I like Kitty a lot but this specific doll is quite upsetting.
Let's have a look at her accessories.
Firstly is her little magazine. The outside is the same colour and pattern as her box, with "Music Z!ne vol2" on the front and the Remix logo on the back. On the barcode is "WRUL3TH3WRLD", which is 'We Rule The World' in l33t-speak. Open up the 'zine once and there's a portrait of Kitty K in the foreground and background, her name, and her single titles. Open it again and inside are the lyrics of Vol. 2, the same lyrics that play through her record.
Kitty's first garment bag - multi coloured lyric print - contains Pop B.B's second outfit on a hot pink pearly clothes hanger. The top is a silver sheer mesh-net cropped tee, ad the bottoms are ripped waist-high denim jeans with black elastic suspenders.
I didn't put the second outfit on Honey in her review, but I will this time with Kitty. The top looks nice, no problems. I thought it would be so see through you could see her tiddies but there is a little band for extra coverage sewn into the top. There are a few things wrong with the jeans though. One of the elastic suspender straps is too short, so it stretches and will only sit on her shoulder joint, while the other is relaxed and sits loosely right in between the neck and shoulder join, and it pulls on the back of the jeans so the velcro opens. The bottoms of these particular pants are sewn in a little too small, and I struggled to get them to slip over Kitty's thick calves.
In the second garment bag - cracked fractal silver design - is Kitty's skirt on a pearly light pink hanger. The skirt is metallic pink and split at the front, connected with silver elastic, and velcro at the back. It's also got glittery hot pink pockets that are not functional.
In the last bag - hot pink with black cat and text graffiti - is her gorgeous sheer hot pink cloak on a black coat hanger. The fabric and ribbons are very crinkled from being crammed into a too-small bag. Once it's been on the doll for a while, it should even out.
I put the skirt and cloak on Kitty and I cannot stop looking at her. It's gorgeous. See the ridiculous length of the ribbons? Holy heck.
Thankfully her sleeves cover up that awful plastic flaw in her arm.
To put the skirt on, undo the velro, slip the silver elastic under the point at the bottom of the bodice, and do the velcro back up. Note that the sleeves are meant to have a split in them at the end near the bows; this is not a flaw, so watch out for her fingers. Please be careful when putting Kitty back on the stand after you've put the cloak on, as the clasp arms will poke through the sheer fabric where ever it can find an entry point. Mine poked through a seam and I didn't catch it before I damaged it. :( You can see where it's far thinner and the bodice colouring is coming through under her arm. The bows aren't sewn in place either, so with too much handling, they will come undone.
Accessory time! When I took the shoebox out, I broke the other dial cover too, so they're both broken now. Heck.
In the pearly pink hatbox is...pretty pink remix tissue paper, and inside THAT is... boot leggings, magenta pearl detailed sunnies, microphone, silver cat ears and silver mismatched earrings. The boot leggings are flared at the bottom and imitation leather of some sort with a blue-white fibre mix, and non-functional silver laces. I recognise the sunnies, as they're the exact same as Queen Bee's but a different colour. The mic I love, its cute as heck. The mic itself is metallic silver, but the handle is a similar pink to Kitty's skirt and spells meow! The cat ears have gem details in the plastic and is coated in a rainbow holographic that can be better seen on the back of the ears. The mismatched earrings are also coated in this holo.
In the pearly black shoebox is Kitty's size 6 and a half shoes wrapped in more of the tissue paper. The shoes have tiny chain detailing and are coated in the holo like the other silver accessories. The shoebox also has the same l33t-speak text in the barcode as the Music Z!ne has. Pro-tip, put the boot leggings on before the heels.
And now here she is all dressed.
I did not include the glasses in her final look because they interfere with the placement of the ears, and they struggle to stay on enough as it is sadly. Her bun pig-tails are too far forward on her head to give the ears enough space to sit on straight.
If I pretend that none of the issues are there I could in full honesty say that I totally 100% love this doll. The worst of the problems I had is the deformed plastic of her arm for sure, and to fix that I'd need to get a whole replacement body. Her hair is a bit of a nightmare but it's fixable if I sit down for a couple of hours and really go at it.
I usually rename my dolls with an alternate name to their stage name, but Kitty has me stumped, I'm not sure what to call her. I don't want to call her Ariana because it's too on the nose, so, for now, she remains Kitty K.
The good news is, if you don't include the box as waste, the image below is as much waste as I got from unboxing Kitty. The two plastic shape-keeping busts are recyclable, but the pegs aren't. I'm happy it's not much, but small plastics are as harmful as large plastics if they're not disposed of correctly. Remember guys, recycle what you can and don't littler - throw your rubbish in the bin.
As promised, I'm going to take a look at Honey's record lyrics and dress her in her second outfit.
Honey's record lyrics are;
"Don't try to play, oh no,
We might steal the show,
Me and my crew, let's go,
Let the rhythm flow.
I'm with my crew, we ride,
We remix this vibe,
We rule the world, that's right,
We're L.O.L Surprise!"

I hope you enjoyed this new style of unboxing and review! I wrote in a more relaxed, more genuine 'me' tone and took pictures as I opened it so it could feel like a more authentic experience.

These match the lyrics in her Music Z!ne that I also didn't look at in the Honey's review. I really did a half-assed review on that huh? So the first verse is different but the second is the same, which I guess is the chorus. The first verse of each box seems to be the individual bridge of each girl.

Also as promised, here is Honey in her second outfit, for Lone Star. It's not the most interesting outfit on Honey, but I'm sure it suits Lone Star's western look with her accessories way more. The edges of the denim aren't hemmed and are starting to fray, so that's a bit of a worry.
