5 Surprise Mini Toy Brands - A quick review
I've been waiting since day 1 for 5 Surprise Mini Brands to come to Australia, I even bought several capsules from overseas because I wasn't expecting them to come here at all. I've borderline harrassed Zuru on Instagram to bring them to Australia, and that I didn't care they weren't Aussie brands. MINI THINGS SELL. They said, "We have a surprise for Australia soon".
Well, I was half wrong. The American/Canadian mini brands never made it here, but in mid-October, I found the Mini Toy Brands at a Kmart on the Gold Coast.
Not quite what I was hoping for, if this is the surprise they had for Australia, so I'm a little disappointed. A pleasant surprise none the less I suppose.
But I decided I'd give them a shot anyway, fully considering buying a whole display case of 12, $10 each, but my inner thoughts and my friend who was with me said "Yo that's a bit of money, and are you going to be able to take it home".
I listened for once (weird!) and only purchased the one singular ball.
Kinda mad cause I found them back home later for $8. Yes, $2 matters to me lol.

The ball is really simple to open. The outer printed layer opens with a tear strip, followed by a clear layer wrap. At this point, the ball may open all the way on its own where the little silicone squishy cap that holds the wedges together at one end comes loose. If not, just rip that bad boy off and yeet it into the bin.
Each wedge is capped with a plastic film printed with the 5 surprise logo and such, which you grab by the tab and tear off.
One of the bigger wedges will contain a double-sided checklist and one mini, the remaining 4 contain just a mini or one of the mini 4 shop accessories. There are 3 super rare golds, 4 rare glow in the dark, 4 metallic, and the rest are normal.
Mine came with;
Nickelodeon Slime, Rugrats Tommy, Dora's Backpack, RC Mini Mip, and 5-surprise Unicorn Squad series 2.
Tommy, Backpack, and RC can all be taken out of their packages like they're actual miniature figures. The slime and Unicorn Squad are just film wrapped plastic shapes.
Out of the 5, I only like the Unicorn Squad, of which I have normal size ones of! Personal preferences I think. I have no interest in Nickelodeon.
There are 63 things to collect including the mini shop accessories, and with the blind-bag gimmick, you can guarantee that you'll start getting duplicates the more you buy. I wouldn't mind that if they were the mini foods of series 1 and 2, and the UK edition - that I'm still mad that haven't come here yet - but there's just so many Nickelodeon products and barely a single thing I actually like, I don't really want to buy any more whole balls at this point, and will probably outsource the singles I want.
If I can get my hands on more of the standard Mini Brands foodstuff, I'll absolutely do a review on those, it's just a let down they're not here yet.
I feel like this was a half-hearted post due to the disappointment in the miniatures and that they weren't what I really wanted. Hopefully Zuru will listen in the future.
